Answers

Do you teach music theory? Do I have to learn music theory?

Yes, I do teach music theory, but your lessons do not have to include that. Whether or not you should be studying music theory- that depends on your goals. If you are a complete beginner or taking lessons just for fun you do not have to study theory. However, if you are an advanced student who wants to learn songs independently, play with a band, lead a band, go to auditions, perform, apply to music colleges/ conservatories etc., it is most likely that you will need to study music theory.

I am a complete beginner and never took a lesson- can I study with you?

Yes, absolutely! I accept students of all levels, and will be happy to introduce you to the basics of a strong, healthy vocal technique.

Can anybody learn how to sing?

Yes! If you're concentrated in lessons and you're dedicated to the learning process, you will be able to improve your singing. More importantly- you will be able to sing much better than you could without training.

Is it possible to learn singing from an instructional CD/ DVD?

A teacher does one important thing that a CD or a DVD can never do: gives you feedback!!! If you are practicing only with a CD, you might be practicing things that are incorrect without even know it.

How much time should I spend practicing?

That depends entirely on your goals. If you're studying for fun, try to practice at least twice a week for half an hour. If you're an advanced student you should practice more, and will probably have more material to review. In any case, I highly recommend recording every lesson and carefully reviewing the recording on your own, even in weeks when you are swamped.

I have an audition tomorrow- can you help me prepare?

I will do my best. Have the music and lyrics memorized, make sure you have either sheet music or recorded accompaniment, and make sure you are able to sing the song from beginning to end without stopping. During the lesson I will do my best to give you tips that will be useful to you in your audition.

Next time, please remember to get ready earlier!
